Thomas Arthur was born in 1897 in Loughborough, Leics., his siblings were, Annie B., born 1889, Emma, born 1893 and Albert, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Loughborough, Leics., also residing with the family was his paternal uncle, Albert Butler, born 1870 in Woodhouse Eaves, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 21, Cradock Street, Loughborough, Leics.
