He was the son of Arthur Cunningham, a general labourer, born 1865 in Loughborough, Leics., and his wife Sarah Cunningham (nee Brookes, married 1894), born 1875 in Loughborough, Leics. Arthur was born in 1897 in Loughborough, Leics., his siblings were, Lizzie, born 1896 and Sarah, born 1901, both his siblings were born in Loughborough, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 78, Pinfold Gate, Loughborough, Leics. In April 1911 Arthur was a schoolboy and was residing in the family home at 4, Salmon Street, Loughborough, Leics., together with his father, now a bricklayer’s labourer, his mother and siblings, Lizzie, a a dyeworks turner, Sarah, a schoolgirl, Fred, born 1907, Edward, born 1909 and Mary, born 1905, the latter three siblings were all born in Loughborough, Leics., also residing with the family was his maternal uncle, Fred Brookes, a crane manufacturers general labourer, born 1889 in Loughborough, Leics.
On Friday May 28th 1915 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “THE ROLL OF HONOUR.” – LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT CASUALTIES. The following casualties in the Leicestershire Regiment are announced by the Official Press Bureau:- Reported May 4th.
