Source: Leicestershire War Memorials Project. following biographical information submitted by E. Robinson, granddaughter of G. W. Marchant Taylor, August 2016:
'The wife of George William Marchant Taylor was Martha Wilhelmina Hough.
Grandpa Taylor 'ran away' to join the army and told Grandma that he would come back for her in 7 years which he did. They had four daughters born in India, Burma, South Africa and the last in the UK.
He had already done his time and the family were on their way home when rumours of war were starting. He rejoined his regiment because he felt it was his duty and Grandma said, he loved thrill of battle. He was wounded in Egypt and could have been invalided out but chose to return his regiment. He was killed by what would these days be called friendly fire when he was hit by shrapnel from the British army's own guns. My mother was seven when news of her father's death was given to her by her headmistress and she could describe that day in detail all her life'.
