ContributeSource: Leicestershire War Memorials Project. When Walter Thomas Dunning was born in December 1909 in Loughborough, Leicestershire, his father, William, was 41 and his mother, Emma, was 37. He had two brothers and one sister. in the 1930's Walter became a teacher at Cobden Street School.
Walter Dunning volunteered to join the RAF during WW2. He flew in a Handley Page Halifax which is a British Royal Air Force (RAF) four-engined heavy bomber of the Second World War.
Unfortunately, in June 1943, Walter’s mother received some devastating news: Walter’s plane was shot down over the Netherlands and his body was never recovered.
He died on 22 June 1943 at the age of 33.
