He was the son of Mr and Mrs Charles Knifton. Jack had been employed as a miner at Coleorton Colliery after leaving school, but shortly before the outbreak of war had joined Wootton Brothers Iron Works. He died during a night attack on a village when a shell burst alongside him and killed him instantly. The War Diary for today records. BROSSE WOODS. Posts established at L.18A.26., L.17B.94., L.17D.86., L.17B.68. and L.11D.45., consolidated gradually. Casualties 8 killed or died of wounds, 17 wounded, 1 missing. 10.00pm. Relief commenced by 2nd/4th Battn LINCOLNSHIRE REGT.
