ContributeSource: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland. He was the youngest of five sons of Mr and Mrs George Yates. George was educated at Ravenstone Church of England School, upon leaving school he followed in his fathers footstep’s and took up employment as a miner at Ibstock Colliery. He enlisted at the age of seventeen and saw service in Ireland during the Easter uprising of 1916, and then he embarked for the Western Front where after only seven weeks he was killed near to Bouvincourt, France.
