He was the son of James Ross, a domestic Gardener, born 1858 in Scotland and his wife Christina, born 1859 in Scotland. James L., was a plumber’s apprentice and was born in 1883 in Heaton Moor, Lancs., his siblings were Frances G., born 1887 and Rhoda A., born 1895, both his siblings were born at Ashton under Lyne, Lancs., in March 1901 the family home was at Mop lane, Alderley Edge, Cheshire. In April 1911 James was employed as a plumber and was residing in the family home at 97, Hartington Street, Salford, Lancs., together with his wife of five years, Frances Ross (nee Ostick), born 1884 in Alderley Edge, Cheshire and their son, Lionel, born 1907 in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.
