Track cleared from L2 to L5 but no real cover here even from observation. Another successful daylight reconnaissance carried out by 2nd Lt W. M. COLE. Party of MONMOUTHSHIRE REGT worked for the last time on new trenches. During the afternoon the Commanding Officer taped out a fire trench from SAVILE ROW north to centre point in CARDIFF STREET. This was dug during the evening. Enemy quiet all day. At 10.30pm enemy suddenly opened with three heavy minenwerfers on left of D Coy post behind the front line. Immediate retaliation was delivered and received, about 15 rounds had fallen. These did no damage to anybody, or anything. Night quiet but very cold. New dug out, or rather old trench mortar emplacement suitable for Cy HQ discovered in BARTS ALLEY EAST.
