He was the son of Herbert E. Bromwich a farm labourer, born 1860 in Astley, Warwks., and his wife Florence S., born 1864 in Overseal, Leics. Herbert Edgar was born in 1895 in Rugby, Warwks., his siblings were Bertha A., born 1886 in Harleston, Staffs., Sidney E., born 1888 in Loughborough, Leics., Bernard P., born 1891 and Elsie A., born 1894, the latter two siblings were both born in Rugby, Warwks., Frank, born 1897 in Walton, Leics., Archie, born 1898 and James, born 1900, the latter two siblings were both born in Quorn, Leics., and Lizzie, born 1901 in Cosby, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Fowke Street, Rothley, Leics. In April 1911 Herbert was employed as a bill page and was residing as a servant at The Grand Hotel, Leicester.
