He was the son of John Booton a butler, born 1854 in Twycross, Leics., and his wife Hannah, born 1856 in Orton on the Hill, Leics. Arthur John was born in 1885 at Shenton, Leics., his siblings were Thomas W., born 1887 and Ethel Mary, born 1890, both his siblings were born in Sheepy Magna, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Church Lane, Sheepy Magna, Leics. In March 1901 Arthur was employed as a farm carter and was residing as a servant at Farm House, Sheepy Parva, Leics. In April 1911 Arthur was employed as a farm labourer and was residing in the family home at Church Lane, Sheepy Magna, Leics., together with his widowed mother a laundress, and his siblings Thomas and Ethel.
