He was the son of William and Charlotte Freeman of Shepshed, Leics., and the husband of Mary Jane Freeman. The 4th April 1917 edition of the Leicester Mercury published the following under the heading, “ROLL OF HONOUR.” Pte. Edmund Chas. Freeman, A.V.C., Brittania Street, Shepshed, died in Southwark Military Hospital Feb 25. 1917, after being invalided home from France. The article also carried a photograph.
