He was the son of Allen Jordan, a hosiery framework knitter, born 1861 in Shepshed, Leics., and his wife Sarah Ann Jordan (nee Gent, married Q1 1880 in the Loughborough, Leics district), born 1858 in Shepshed, Leics. William Albert was born in 1889 in Shepshed, Leics., his siblings were, Mary Elizabeth, a schoolgirl, born 1882, Arthur, a schoolboy, born 1886 and Ernest Gent, a schoolboy, born 1888, all his siblings were born in Shepshed, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Hall Croft, Shepshed, Leicester. In March 1901 William was residing in the family home at Brook Street, Shepshed, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Mary, a hosiery mender, Arthur, a shoe trade clicker, Ernest, a shoe trade clicker, Agnes Lilian, born 1892, Ethel, born 1897 and Cyril, born 1901, the latter three siblings were all born in Shepshed, Leics. In April 1911 William was employed as a shoe trade clicker and was residing in the family home at Brook Street, Shepshed, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Arthur a furniture worker, Ernest a shoe trade finisher, Agnes, a hosiery Griswold worker, Ethel, a hosiery trade stitcher, and Cyril, a schoolboy. The family later resided at Queen Street, Shepshed, Leics. William enlisted on the 7th September 1915 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force in France on the 25th September 1916, joining his unit, the Drake Battalion on the 26th November 1916 and serving with it until he was detached from active service on the 18th March 1917 suffering from inflammation of connective tissue, in the right large toe. He re-joined the Drake Battalion on the 19th May 1917 and served with it until reported missing, later presumed killed in action on the 30th December 1917.
