He was the son of Edward Betts a Glove Maker, born 1858 in Sileby, Leics., and his wife Mary, born 1873 in Sileby, Leics. Percival Edward was born in 1894 in Sileby, Leics., his siblings were, Maud, born 1895, Frederick, born 1897 and Sarah A., born 1901, all his siblings were born in Sileby, Leics., also residing with the family was his paternal uncle Thomas Betts, a widower and Shoe Maker, born 1824 in Sileby, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Brook Street, Sileby, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Sileby, St. Mary. In April 1911 Percival was employed as a Brickyard Worker and was residing in the family home at Cross Road, Sileby, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Maud, Frederick, Sarah, Ada A., born 1902 and Harry, born 1907, the latter two siblings were both born in Sileby, Leics.
