He was the son of William and Elizabeth Smith of 86, Barrow Road, Sileby, Leics. His enlistment documents record that he gave his trade or calling as Cement Finisher and his next of kin as his mother, Elizabeth Smith of Underhill, Sileby, Leicestershire, England. He stated that he was unmarried. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 5 ¼ inches in height and had a chest measurement of 33 to 35 inches. His complexion was described as fair with blue eyes and brown hair. It was noted that he had a mole on his left knee. He gave his religion as Church of England. A newspaper report in the Toronto Star dated April 2nd 1917 gave the following information. Pte. Abraham Smith, who was reported missing since March 1, is now reported to have been killed on that date. He enlisted in Toronto and went overseas with Col. Beckett last March, reaching the trenches in June. His relatives are in England.
