James Henry Smith D.O.B. - 15th October 1908

Son of George Henry and Elizabeth Catherine Smith: husband of Lilian Smith, of South Wigston, Leicestershire.

Enlisted at Leicester into the Leicestershire Regiment Regular Army (as No. 4854376).

Served with the British Army of the Rhine from November 1927 to September 1929 and overseas service in India October 1933 to August 1939.
Appointed to an Emergency Commission as Lieutenant in the Sherwood Foresters - November 1941.
Served Nigeria - May 1943 to November 1943 and India/Burma November 1943 to March 1944.
Reported missing in action 2nd March 1944, North of Kaungdok, Burma and died from wound received in action aged 35.
Buried and remembered with honour at Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar.

The photographs show James H Smith in circa 1927 and again in circa 1942/3. The third photograph shows his grave at the cemetery in Myanmar.
