He was the son of Alfred Chapman a stone quarry worker, born 1846 in Mountsorrel, Leics., and his wife Hannah E., born 1849 in Stoney Stanton, Leics. Alfred Robert was born in 1887 in Stoney Stanton, Leics., his siblings were, John, born 1868, Margaret L., born 1874, William, born 1876, George, born 1878, Walter, born 1881 and Rose H., born 1883, all his siblings were born in Stoney Stanton, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Manorfield Cottages, Hinckley Road, Stoney Stanton, Leics. In March 1901 Alfred was employed as a farm labourer and was residing in the family home at Manorfield Cottages, Hinckley Road, Stoney Stanton, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, William, Margaret, Walter, Rose and Thomas, born 1892 in Stoney Stanton, Leics. In April 1911 Alfred was employed as a quarry worker and was residing in the family home at Hinckley Road, Stoney Stanton, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, William, Rose and Thomas.
