He was the son of George Harry, Church a mechanical engineer, born 1870 in Cleehill, Salop and his wife Ellen, born 1868 in Leek, Staffs. Harold Tom, was born in 1896 in Leicester, he had one sibling, a brother Clive Stanley, born 1898 in Leamington, Warwks., in March 1901 the family home was at 24a, Commercial Road, Shepton Mallet, Somerset. In April 1911 Harold was residing in the family home at 24a, Commercial Road, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, together with his father, now a superintending engineer, his mother and siblings Reginald Seymour, born 1895 in Leicester and Clive. His mother later returned to live in Stoney Stanton, Leics. On his enlistment he stated that his trade or calling was Farmer. His medical examination gave his height as 6 foot, his chest measurement as 36 to 39 inches, his complexion as ruddy, his eyes were brown and his hair was light brown. He gave his religion as Church of England.
