He was the son of Job Dixey, a stone quarry worker, born 1866 in North Moor, Witney, Oxon., and his wife Ruth Dixey, born 1867 in Stoney Stanton, Leics. Charles William was born on the 23rd August 1899 in Stoney Stanton, Leics., his siblings were Annie M., born 1890 and Walter, born 1893, both his siblings were born in Stoney Stanton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Carey Hill Road, Stoney Stanton, Leics. In April 1911 Charles was a schoolboy and was residing in the family home at 1, Cleavers Yard, Hinckley, Leics., together with his father, a quarry labourer, his mother, a char woman and his siblings, Walter, a canal boatman, Alice, born 1903 and Ida Clara, born 1905, the latter two siblings were both born in Stoney Stanton, Leics. Charles enlisted on the 2nd October 1917 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force in France on the 2nd April 1918, joining his unit, the Hawke Battalion on the 7th April 1918 and serving with that unit until he was killed in action on the 3rd September 1918.
