He was the son of Jonathan Allott a Boot Laster, born 1868 in Thurmaston, Leicestershire and his wife Emma, born 1869 in Syston, Leicestershire. Jonathan was a Shoe Hand Linker and was born in 1896 in Syston, Leicestershire, he had one sibling, a sister Ellen Hilda, born 1902 in Syston, Leicestershire, in 1911 the family home was at High Street, Syston, Leicestershire. On Friday July 20th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL AND DISTRICT NEWS” - SYSTON. LOCAL SOLDIERS KILLED.- Several local soldiers have recently lost their lives in action. Private Jonathan Allott, Leicester Regiment killed in action on June 29th, at the age of 21, lived in Upper Church Street, Syston. The War Diary entry for the 29th June 1917 records. MAZINGARBE. "A", "B", "C" and "D" Companies worked as before.
