He was the son of Arthur Barker a Pressman in a Leather Board Mill, born 1880 in Queniborough, Leicestershire and his wife Hannah, born 1877 in Syston, Leicestershire. William Edward was born in 1900 in Queniborough, Leicestershire. In April 1911 the family home was at Albion Street, Syston, Leicestershire. The War Diary entry for the 23rd July 1918 records. LES BREBIS. Battalion relieved the 13th MIDDLESEX REGT on right Battalion sector. The relief was good – dispositions were as follows:- “A” Company HYTHE TUNNEL, “B” Company 1st SUPPORT, “C” Company 2nd SUPPORT, “D” Company Reserve Company.
