He was the son of George Fitch, a chimney sweep, born in the April quarter of 1858 in Leicester (son of George Fitch, 1824-1886 and Elizabeth Tolton, 1827) and his wife Mary Fitch (nee Warner, married on the 7th November 1880 in All Saint’s Church, Wigston Magna, Leicestershire), born in the April quarter of 1863 in Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire (daughter of Joseph Warner, 1822 and Sarah Southam, 1822). Sidney George was born in in the April quarter of 1893 in Syston, Leicestershire and baptised on the 15th May 1893 in the Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Syston, his siblings were, Amy Robsart, a hosiery trade griswold knitter, born on the 7th August 1881 and baptised on the 20th September 1881 in the Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Syston, Olive May Victoria, born on the 16th March 1897 and baptised on the 2nd May 1897 in the Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Syston and Bertie Edward, born on the 11th July 1900, all his siblings were born in Syston, in March 1901 the family home was at Brook Street, Syston.
In April 1911 Sidney was employed as a ticket writer and was residing in the family home at Brookside, Syston, together with his father, a chimney sweep, his mother and siblings, Olive, a milliner, and Bertie, a schoolboy.
Sidney enlisted/attested into the Territorial Force on the 9th December 1915 in Leicester, and was allotted the regimental service number 5887. He gave his age as 22 years 255 days. His marital status was given as unmarried and his trade or calling as grocer’s assistant. He gave his present address as 12, Brook Banks, Syston, Leicestershire.
His description on enlistment recorded his apparent age as 22 years 255 days, height 5-feet 8⅛ inches and chest measurement of between 31 and 33 inches. The following distinctive marks were noted, [None recorded].
He gave his next of kin as his father, George Fitch, 12, Brook Banks, Syston, Near Leicester.

On Friday November 1st, 1929, The Leicester Daily Mercury published the following article on page 14, under the heading. – BIRTHS, MARRIAGES AND DEATHS. – IN MEMORIAM. – FITCH. – In affectionate remembrance of our dearly beloved son, Sidney George, 2/4 Leicester’s, who passed away Nov. 1st, 1918. A good faithful and loving son. God be with us till we meet again. – From loving Mother, Father, Sisters and Brother Bert (12, Brookside, Syston).

3rd Bn. Leicestershire Regiment – November 1916 report in Syston Parochial Magazine that he had been discharged on account of ill-health. In December 1918 report that he had succumbed to the October sickness, also report of his burial, age 25 yrs.
