He was the son of Louisa, and the late John King of 22, Melton Road, Syston, Leics. His enlistment documents record that he gave his father, John King of 22, Melton Road, Syston, Leicestershire as his next of kin, his trade or calling as Bookkeeper, and he stated that he was unmarried. He confirmed that he belonged to the Active Militia, The Winnipeg Grenadiers, 34th Fort Garry Horse. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 4 ¾ inches in height and had a chest measurement of 33 ½ to 35 inches. His complexion was described as dark with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He gave his religion as Church of England.
