Peter Lovegrove was co-pilot of Manchester L7427 OL-Q during a raid on Hamburg on 8th April 1942. The plane crashed in Ermke near Lastrup-Cloppenburg. Lovegrove was the only survivor and became a prisoner of war (POW No. 778). He was initially held in Dulag Luft, then Stalag Luft III (Sagan), then Oflag XX1-B (Schubin). On 12th November 1942 he fell from a high window and fractured his skull. He was buried on 23rd March 1942 at the Szubin cemetery, and on 8th October 1948 exhumed and reburied in the CWGC Poznan British Military Cemetery.
