He was the son of James Cartwright a shoemaker, born 1860 in Marston, Staffs., and his wife Lydia, born 1869 in Stafford. Albert was born in 1896 in Stafford, his siblings were, Alice, born 1883, Patrick, born 1854, Ernest, born 1899 and Violet, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Marston, Staffs., in March 1901 the family home was at Field Place, Tillington, Staffs. In April 1911 Albert was employed as an elastic web trade worker and was residing in the family home at 4, Crown Street, Leicester together with his father, now a boot and shoe trade laster, his mother an outdoor corsetry trade worker and his siblings, Ernest, Violet and James, born 1909 in Leicester. The War Diary for today records. Battn relieved on the night 21st/22nd by 5th LINCOLNSHIRE REGT and went into support trenches at TALUS DES ZOUAVES for 6 days. 2nd Lt W. CROSS and 2nd Lt WAGSTAFF also a draft of 165 other ranks joined 16/1/16. Lt J. GRUNDY joined 17/3/16.
