He was the son of William Booton an agricultural labourer, born 1861 in Twycross, Leics., and his wife Mary, born 1858 in Norton Juxta Twycross, Leics. William a domestic groom, was born in 1884 in Twycross, Leics., his siblings were John, born 1887, Frances Annie, born 1889, Hannah, born 1891, Richard, born 1893, Mary Jane, born 1895, Alice, born 1897 and James, born 1899, all his siblings were born in Twycross, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Main Street, Twycross, Leics. In April 1911 William was employed as a farm stockman and was residing in the family home at Twycross, Leics., together with his wife of three years Annie, born 1885 in Warton, Warwks., and their children John William, born 1908 in Warton, Warwks., and Frances Annie, born 1908 in Twycross, Leics. William enlisted on the 16th July 1917 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force on the 12th November 1917, joing his unit, the Hawke Battalion on the 24th November 1917, serving until suffering a shell wound to his left arm and being invalided home on the 7th January 1918. He again embarked to rejoin the British Expeditionary Force on the 9th July 1918, rejoining the Hawke Battalion on the 27th August 1918 and serving until he suffered a gun shot wound to the abdomen, and died in the 29th Casualty Clearing Station at Delsaux Farm, Beugny, France on the 8th October 1918.
