ContributeSource: Leicestershire War Memorials Project. Lionel was the son of Brevet Col. GD Franklin CIE, OBE, JP, IMS (retd.) and Mrs Franklin of Aldeburgh, Suffolk.
Lionel served with the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy and served with 771 Squadron (Swordfish). He was lent to RAF Bomber Command 38 Squadron (Wellington Bomber) and was killed in action on the 13th April, 1940.
