Source: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland.
He was the second son of John and Sarah Stanton. Before enlistment he had been employed by Mr Naylor of Middle Rasen for five years. After training he was sent to Ireland during the Rebellion, and then embarked for France on the 23rd February 1917. He died of pneumonia in the 48th Casualty Clearing Station, France. He had been in the trenches up to two days before his death, thus sticking to his post until the last possible moment, and was so ill when admitted to hospital that there was no hope of his recovery. He was regarded quiet, having a good natured disposition, and was well respected by his comrades.
