He was the son of Tom Henry Leeson, a stone quarry worker, born 1852 in Beeby, Leicestershire and his wife Annie Leeson (nee Kimber, married in the 3rd quarter of 1879 in the Market Bosworth, Leicestershire district), born 1857 in Markfield, Leicestershire. Alfred was born in the 2nd quarter of 1891 in Charley Chapel, Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire, his siblings were, William, a stone quarry worker, born 1881 in Woodhouse Eaves, Arthur, an agricultural labourer, born 1886 in Copt Oak, Leicestershire, Edith, born 1889, Wilfred, born 1894, Ernest, born 1895, George Harry, born 1898 and Herbert, born 1900, the latter five siblings were all born in Woodhouse Eaves, in March 1901 the family home was at Chapel Cottages, Woodhouse Eaves. In April 1911 Alfred was absent from the family home at Chapel Cottages, Woodhouse Eaves, residing there was his father, a stone quarry worker, his mother and siblings, Arthur, a stone quarry worker, Wilfred, a farm labourer, Ernest, a farm boy and George, a plough driver, Alfred was employed as an under wagoner and was residing as a boarder at Black Hill Farm, Woodhouse Ulverscroft, Leicestershire.
