Private John Sidney Martin, service no. 6986034, age 23 years, 2nd batallion Seaforth Highlanders. Private John Martin was the son of George and Alice Martin and husband of Annie Martin of Coleorton, Leicestershire.

He was killed on 18.11.1944 when liberating the village Panningen or Helden-Dorp (nowadays municipality Peel en Maas, province Limburg, the Netherlands). Initially buried in a wood near the village of Beringe (also part of municipality Peel en Maas), together with his comrades corporal Alexander Fraser from Glasgow, private William Large from Pontybridd (Wales) and Thomas James Jenkins from Hale, Altrinchamchesire. They are all now resting at Venray War Cemetary, Limburg, the Netherlands (Commonwealth War Graves). Grave of private John Sidney Martin: Plot/grave VIII.C. 1.
