He was the son of Mr and Mrs Frederick Harrington. The War Diary for the events from the 12th to the 31st May records. BILLETS, POMMIER. Battalion in rest at POMMIER. Training carried out daily. A range was established at HANNESCAMP and all ranks put through a short musketry course. Tactical exercises for officers and NCO’s, and examinations for NCO’s were carried out.

Coalville Times article - Friday June 1st, 1917

Private Alfred Harrington, Leicestershire Regiment, son of Mr and Mrs F. Harrington, Kirkhill Street, Shepshed, has died at a hospital in France as the result of wounds received in action on May 3rd. Deceased was 19 years of age, but had been in the army about 2 ½ years. At the invitation of the War Office his father went to France to see him, starting from Shepshed on May 11th and returning a week later.
