Bernard was born in 1895 in Shepshed, Leics., his siblings were Gertrude Frances, born 1899 and Henry Osmund, born 1901, both his siblings were born in Shepshed, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Pick Street, Shepshed, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Botolph. In April 1911 Bernard was employed as a Hosiery Wool Winder and was residing in the family home at Pick Street, Shepshed, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Gertrude, Henry, Frederick, born 1905 and Annie, born 1908, the latter two siblings were both born in Shepshed, Leics.
