He was the son of Joseph Bennett a Frame Work Knitter, born 1863 in Shepshed, Leics., and his wife Alice, born 1865 in Shepshed, Leics. Charles Wilfrid was born in 1897 in Shepshed, Leics., his siblings were Elizabeth, born 1884, Joseph, born 1887, Francis, born 1890, Elsie, born 1893, Mary, born 1895 and Sarah, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Shepshed, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Ring Fence, Shepshed, Leics., in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Botolph.
