The following information was kindly submitted to the project by R Meredith in 2016: "He was born at Belton on 31 October 1882, the son of John William Stevenson and his wife Elizabeth Goodwin. John William was the village carpenter and wheelwright, and later became the landlord of the Sun Inn. Elizabeth came from Wardley.
Before the war George helped his father with the carpentry and wheelwright business. When John William died in 1917 he left George £50 in his will. George returned from the war and according to family gossip he also inherited the carpentry business from his father. However he doesn't appear at Belton in the post-war trade directories so maybe he left the area.
George's brother-in-law was William James Clarke, who was killed in action in April 1917 and whose name appears on the Belton War Memorial."
