Albert Marvell was the son of Albert and Sarah Emily Marvell, of Foxton, Leicestershire.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal, as reported in the Market Harborough Advertiser of March 29th 1942:
'DFM for Foxton Man'
' The Distinguished Flying Medal has been awarded to Sergt. Albert Marvell of Foxton, 27 year old son of Mr and Mrs A Marvell, for gallantry and devotion to duty.
The citation reads 'This wireless operator air-gunner has participated in attacks against targets at Brennen, Emden, Mannheim, Hamburg and Brest, the skill with which he has manipulated his wireless set have proved him to be a most useful member of an air crew. He has at all times displayed keenness and devotion to duty and has contributed to the high standard maintained by his crew.'
Sergt. Marvell is an old Market Harborough Grammarian, he enlisted in 1935 for training as a wireless operator gunner, prior to which he was employed as a glass cutter by Messrs. Taylor, Taylor and Hobson of Leicester.'
