He was the son of Alfred Bason a Farm Horseman, born 1873 in Sharnford, Leicestershire and his wife Eliza Ann Bason (nee Williamson), born 1870 in Syston, Leicestershire. Alfred Thomas was born in 1899 in Sharnford, Leicestershire he had a sibling, Harriet, born 1897 in Sharnford, Leicestershire, in March 1901 the family home was at Sharnford, Leicestershire. In April 1911 Alfred was residing in the family home at Bumble Bee Farm, Sharnford, Leicestershire with his parents and siblings, Hannah Sabina, born 1902, Maud May, born 1904, Christina Dorothy, born 1906 and Henrietta Hilda, born 1910, all his siblings were born in Sharnford, Leicestershire, also residing with the family was his maternal grand mother Eliza Williamson a widow, born 1841 in Syston, Leicestershire.
