He was the son of Henry Buswell a domestic gardener, born 1864 in Clipston, Northants., and his wife Hannah, born 1863 in Leicester. George Frederick was born in Little Bowden, Northants., in March 1901 the family home was at 2, Auriga Terrace, Little Bowden, Northants. In April 1911 Frederick was serving as a Private with the Northamptonshire Regiment and was stationed at The Depot, Leicester Road, Northampton. The War Diary entry for the events from the 10th to the 13th January 1916 records. TRENCHES, WEST OF MONCHY. The weather was on the whole dry and the state of the trenches have improved. During these three days the new deviation of the main communication trench has been completed. The enemy artillery has been more active and on the 13th about 10.00am. The enemy 5.9 Howitzers registered up and down the main communication trench, paying particular attention to the HQ dug outs. Though the trench was damaged in parts and the shooting very accurate, there were no casualties.
