He was the son of widow, Mary Clark a charwoman, born 1856 in Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales. Frederick was born in 1897 in Gloucester, his siblings were, Agnes, born 1889 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales and George, born 1896 in Oxford, in March 1901 the family home was at 2, Quaker’s Yard, Market Harborough, Leics. In April 1911 Frederick was employed as a labourer and was residing at 3, Mail Court, Market Harborough, Leics., this being the family home of his married sister Agnes a laundry trade worker and her husband, John Swinton a fish and chip potato fryer, born 1893 in Market Harborough, Leics., also residing in the family home was their son Charles Swinton, born 1897 in Market Harborough, Leics. The War Diary for today records that at ZERO advance commenced and A Company went into Shine Trench vacated by the advancing Norfolk Regiment. At 5.05pm the 71st Infantry Brigade Operational Order 108 was received which provided for a bombing attack, and which was subsequently cancelled. At 7.30pm 71st Infantry Brigade Operational Order 109 was received stating Brigade would be relieved on the 19th/20th . Casualties, other ranks 21 wounded, 8 killed and 2 missing.
