He was the son of James Cook a carpenter, born 1861 in Rushall, Wilts., and his wife Emma, born 1856 in Market Harborough, Leics. Horace was born in 1885 in Great Bowden, Leics., his siblings were, Percy W., born 1882 in Little Bowden, Northants., Howard, born 1883, Alice A., born 1884, Nora E., born 1887, Fred, born 1889 and Clary J., born 1891, the latter five siblings were all born in Great Bowden, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Knights End, Great Bowden, Leics. In March 1901 Horace was employed as a type founder’s caster and was residing in the family home at York Street, Great Bowden, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Rosa, Fred, Clary, Frank, born 1893, Frances, born 1893 and Elsie M., born 1897, the latter three siblings were all born in Great Bowden, Leics. In April 1911 Horace was employed as a type caster and was residing in the family home at Connaught Road, Market Harborough, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Alice, Nora, Fred, Clary, Frank, Frances and Elsie.
