He was the son of James and Hannah Tack of Great Bowden, Leics., and the husband of Frances Kate Tack. The 1901 census records for 14, Knight's End Road, Great Bowden, Leics. James Tack, head of the family and a General Labourer, born 1843 in Milton, Northants. and his wife Hannah, born 1851 in Milton, Northants., also John, son, single and a Coal Porter, born 1876 in Tipton, Staffs., Elizabeth, daughter, single and a Hosiery Machinist, born 1880 in Milton, Northants., Martha, daughter, single, born 1888 in Great Bowden, Leics. and Louisa, daughter, single, born 1890 in Great Bowden, Leics. The 1901 census records for High Street, Milton, Northants. Harry Tack, head of the family and a Brickyard Labourer, born 1866 in Milton, Northants. and his wife, Louisa, born 1863 in Fewcott, Oxfordshire, also Gertrude, daughter, born 1889, Eliza, daughter, born 1891, Elsie, daughter, born 1893, Rose L., daughter, born 1895, Winifred, daughter, born 1898 and Doris, daughter, born 1900. All six children were born in Milton, Northants. Additionally Thomas Tack, boarder, single and a Railway Labourer, born 1881 in Milton, Northants . and Margaret, sister, single and a Domestic Help, born 1885 in Milton, Northants. The War Diary for the 30th November 1917 records. At about 7.30am the enemy attacked and broke through at TWENTY TWO AVENUE. “A” Company were heavily engaged, and the Company retired fighting to about the REVELON FARM – GOUZEAUCOURT ROAD where with the 11th MIDDLESEX REGT on the left, a stand was made till the Cavalry came out to reinforce. “B” and “D” Companies maintained the Reserve Line but were driven northwards and westwards to GREEN SWITCH which they held on to together with parties of other units until the COLDSTREAM GUARDS retook GOUZEAUCOURT. “C” Company held on to the GOUZEAUCOURT – GONNELIEU ROAD until driven back in the direction of METZ, they eventually collected in METZ. Casualties, 1 officer killed, 1 officer wounded, 1 officer missing. Casualties to other ranks unknown – but estimated to be 100.
