The 1911 census records for 9, Rectory Terrace, Little Bowden, Leicestershire. Charles Wadsworth, head of the family and married for 27 years, a Jobbing Gardener, born 1864 in Little Bowden, Northamptonshire and his wife Mary Jane, born 1865 in Kettering, Northamptonshire, also Edith Fanny, daughter, single and a Corset Machinist Hand, born 1888 and John Charles Wadsworth, son, single and a Rubber Stockman Hand, born 1896, both children were born in Little Bowden, Northants. The Birth Registration Register, shows that John Charles S. Waddsworth was born in the April, May, June quarter of 1896. The Medal Index Card records that he was awarded the 1915 Star, Roll RFA/7AIB, Page 5762, and the British and Victory Medals, Roll RFA/216B, Page 23199. He was shown to have first entered the theatre of war in France on the 14th November 1915.
Source: Leicestershire War Memorials Project. John was killed when loading ammunition for his battery, just behind the front line. A battery of field guns nearby opened fire, and one round exploded as it left the barrel, and John was hit by shell fragments and killed.
