James Ward, head of the family and married for 22 years, a Carpenter, born 1855 in Little Bowden, Leicestershire and his wife Sarah, born 1856 in Harpole, Northamptonshire, also Frances Annie, daughter, single and a Coffee Warehouse Worker, born 1890, Elizabeth, daughter, single and a Dressmaker, born 1891, Stella, daughter, single and a Coffee Warehouse Worker, born 1893, Emily Sarah, daughter, single and a Day Maid, born 1895, the latter four daughters were all born in East Farndon, Northants., George Gilbert, son, single and a Paper Boy, born 1896 and Florence, daughter and a Schoolgirl, born 1899, the latter two children were born in Little Bowden, Leics. The War Diary for today records. Day very quiet. At 5.15pm strong working parties of enemy were noticed and immediately dispersed by Lewis gun fire. Strength, Corporal E. MANTON having died of wounds is struck off strength of Battn. 3 N.C.O.’s and 106 men having arrived are taken on strength of Battn.
