He was the son of Ada, and the late John George Wilford. His elder brothers George Ernest H., and Cecil Frank also fell. The 1901 census records for Heygate Street, Great Bowden, Market Harborough, Leicestershire. John G., head of the family and a Carpenter, born 1870 in Great Bowden, Leicestershire and his wife Ada, born 1871 in Market Harborough, Leics., also George E. H., son, born 1894, Cecil F., son, born 1895 and Arthur F., son, born 1898, all three sons were born in Market Harborough, Leics. The Medal Index Card shows that he first entered the theatre of war in France on the 28th February 1915. He was awarded the 1915 Star, Roll 7/3B7, Page 582, and the British and Victory Medals, Roll 7/102B24, Page 2960. The War Diary pages for events from the 26th to the 31st October 1917 appear to have not been placed in the folder for October 1917, they must therefore be assumed to have been misplaced or lost, the comment that follows is quoted from the War Diary:- NOTE. The remaining portion of the October diary will be forwarded when the Battalion comes out of the line. (This entry was made under the last entry which was for the 26th October 1917).
