He was the son of Ellen Wilson, and the late George Wilson. His younger brother Frank also fell. His enlistment documents records that he gave his address as 31, Heath Street, Market Harborough, Leics., he stated that he was unmarried, and gave his trade or calling as a General Labourer. He gave his sister, Ivy Kate Green of 31, Heath Street, Market Harborough, Leics. as his next of kin. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 5 1/4 inches in height, and had a chest measurement of 31 inches. He enlisted on the 13th March 1916 and was posted to the 2nd/5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry of the 17th March 1916. The 1911 census records for 31, Heath Street, Great Bowden, Market Harborough, Leicestershire. Ellen Wilson, head of the family and a widow, born 1860 in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, also Ivy Hattie, daughter, single and a Corset Fitter, born 1885, Mary Ann, daughter, single and a Card Board Box Maker, born 1887, Ellen, daughter, single and a Card Board Box Maker, born 1889, George, son, single and a Labourer, born 1891, Frank, son, single and a Corset Maker, born 1894 and John William, son and a Printers Case Maker, born 1897, all six children were born in Market Harborough, Leics. The Medal Index Card shows that he was awarded the British and Victory Medals, Roll 0/1/103B34, Page 6726.
