He was the son of William Chapman a hosiery trade worker, born 1874 in Arnesby, Leics., and his wife Fanny, born 1874 in Fleckney, Leics. Albert was born in 1897 in Fleckney, Leics., his siblings were, Arthur Oswald, born 1899 and Ethel Annie, born 1900, both his siblings were born in Fleckney, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Barrack Row, Fleckney, Leics. In April 1911 Albert was employed as a hosiery trade winder and was residing in the family home at Barrack Row, Fleckney, Leics., together with his father and mother, now a hosiery machinist and siblings, Arthur, Ethel and Edith, born 1904 in Fleckney, Leics.
