His death was reported in the Market Harborough Advertiser on the 7th April 1944:
Death of Fleckney Flight Sergeant
We regret to announce the death of Flight Sergeant JR Peberdy, who met his death on an operational flight. The interment took place at Fleckney. The service took place at the Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a staunch member. He was also a member of the Bible Class and before joining the RAF was a member of the Home Guard. He was also a member of the Fleckney Silver Band. He was of a very pleasing disposition, always ready to serve others and the sympathy of the whole village goes out to his sorrowing parents, sisters and sweetheart in their sad bereavement.
The funeral took place on Thursday last. Pastor EE Jarvis officiated The bearers were six Flight SErgeants and an escort of ten Flight Sergeants and an Officer were present. The coffin was inscribed ''1531965 F/Sgt Peberdy, JR, died 25.3.44 aged 21 years.'' and was draped with a Union Jack.
