He was the son of the late Mr J. T. Love of Uppingham, Rutland. He left a wife and child (posthumous) who were residing at Castle View, Bringhurst, Leics. He embarked for France on the 28th February 1915 and fought at Neuve Chapelle, Ypres, Hill 60, the Hohenzollern Redoubt and in many other engagements, being wounded on three occasions and also experiencing gas poisoning. He was awarded the Military Medal for rescuing wounded comrades, when he himself was also wounded and for other acts of conspicuous gallantry. He was discharged through incapacitation on the 13th September 1917, and the following November he aquired the butchers business of the late Mr Rowland Turner of Uppingham, Rutland. In December of the same year he married Miss Margaret Clarke, the daughter of the late Mr T. S. Clarke of Bringhurst, Leicestershire with whom he had served his apprenticeship.
