The 1911 census records for Weed's Cottages, Uppingham, Rutland. Horace Tyers, head of the family and married for 24 years, a General Farm Labourer, born 1856 in Uppingham, Rutland, and his wife Mary, born 1862 in Preston, Rutland, also Fred Amos, son, single and a Builder's Carter born 1889, John Thomas, son, single and a Bricklayers Labourer, born 1891, Harry, son, single and a General Farm Labourer, born 1895, Horace, son, single and a Coal Carters Boy, born 1898, May Elizabeth, daughter, single and a Schoolgirl, born 1901, Daisy, daughter, single and a Schoolgirl, born 1901, Elsie, daughter, single and a Schoolgirl, born 1903 and Bessie, daughter, single and a Schoolgirl, born 1904, all eight children were born in Uppingham, Rutland. Prior to enlisting he had been engaged as a farm labourer, he embarked for France on the 27th of July 1916 and fought on the Somme, he was killed in action at Thiepval Wood, France.
