At Waterloo he served in G Troop Royal Horse Artillery as a Bombardier with his brother Gunner George Almey and his first cousin Bombardier Nathaniel Almey. On the Waterloo medal roll both Samuel and Nathaniel are recorded with the surname Omey, a long story! but mainly due to the local accent.
Nathaniel Almey is also buried in the Parish church graveyard at Earl Shilton.
Samue,l his brother George and cousin Nathaniel Almey all fought at the Battle of Waterloo as part of G Troop Royal Horse Artillery. There were three other men from Earl Shilton at Waterloo.
