The CWGC records that Jack was the son of Mrs. Matilda Stannage; husband of Emily Stannage, of 265, Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. He is recorded here as being 33 years of age when he died.

His parents are buried in the churchyard at Ashby Folville; his father, William Stannage, died in 1908- it is possible therefore that his mother moved to Canada after the death of her husband, returning to England before her death in 1940.
