A training flight on 13th January 1948 (Wellington RP555) crashed near Topcliffe Airfield (it was thought the elevator control cable had become disconnected). Pilot - P2 (W/O) William Frederick Barber RAF (1614255), Signaller - Sig2b (W/O) Kenneth John Feary RAF (1813068) and Passenger - AC1 Peter Arthur Lindus RAF (3088756) were all killed. The only survivor was Instructor Pilot - P2 Frederick Osmond Bosomworth RAF.
